ABSTRACT

This Ontario Symposium has provided us with a selection of the newest and most important theory and research on social influence. This quite diverse group of presentations spans a variety of theoretical perspectives and methodologies. Reflecting current trends within social psychology, most authors emphasized cognitive processes, yet some dealt in addition with motivational themes. Most authors considered the situational determinants of attitudes and beliefs, yet some focused on the role of enduring personality dispositions. Most authors discussed relatively new concepts or theories, yet others made good use of more traditional perspectives.
