Knowledge Representation - A Critique and a Proposal
In this chapter I present some observations about the knowledge representation systems now in common use. To some extent these observations are critiques of these systems. I believe that these critiques are self-acknowledging in that the problems they describe have already made themselves known to the users of these various notations. My purpose here is to bring these problems more out into the open and to recognize their greater implications. Doing so leads to a rather different view of representation.
