ABSTRACT

The enhancement of self-concept has been an important aim of psychotherapy and education programs. Despite numerous efforts to change selfconcept there appears to be no consistent answer as to whether it is possible to enhance self-concept as a consequence of these programs. This chapter provides a comprehensive review of these studies, determines whether selfconcept can be enhanced, ascertains which types of programs are more effective, and identifies important moderators that appear to be influential in the effectiveness of various programs.
