ABSTRACT

There seem to be as many measures of self-concept as there are researchers of the topic. Many tests are used only once and lack any basis for others to confidently use them. Further, many of the well-used standardized tests are so “slightly” modified for local usage that it is not clear just how “standard” they are. As an indication of the range of tests available, the meta-analysis of self- and achievement measures (see chapter 9) included 62 different tests of self-concept from 128 different studies and, that of change in self-concept (chapter 10), 93 different tests from 91 studies.
