ABSTRACT
The present chapter concerns the attribute of number. In it we make the following points:
The number of successive events (stimuli or responses) can serve as an effective stimulus for behavior, even when all temporal cues are counterbalanced or held constant,
There is cross-modal transfer of the attribute of number, and
The same internal mechanism is used for duration, number, and rate discrimination.
