ABSTRACT

The theoretician’s conception of the human being in terms of a limiting membrane, with an inside and an outside, is at the same time a drawing that the infant might make of the self, or a fellow-human. The infant is concerned about an inside, and about the inside phenomena to which I have referred, and is concerned about the body and about the psyche at the same time. It is just here that the term psycho-somatic begins to have a special meaning.
