ABSTRACT
Some of us are fortunate enough to have a social system that we can talk into having problems for us, so to speak. The ch i ld abuser's unconsc ious , to anthropomorphize , might say, "I can get my ch i ld to be afraid of going to school so that I can use my Steve McGarr i t t behavior more eas i l y . " Steve McGarr i t t can get his son to be a del inquent so that he can coach h im into going straight. Then he can use his normal , healthy wak ing state behaviors (of being a coach) and keep himself in balance. Then the impulses to go and break a w i n d o w are being manifested by the ch i l d . A n d so he gets to d isown them rather than suppress them in himself without help. He gets to suppress them with the help of somebody else w h o m he can cal l " b a d " and w h o m he can cure.
