ABSTRACT

A full profession includes roles in both direct and indirect career functions for its members. As the field of child and youth care has developed, career paths for practitioners primarily focusing on indirect functions have been proposed. This chapter proposes a career trajectory in clinical work that allows for increasingly responsible, complex and autonomous practice as the practitioner becomes more mature and experienced both personally and professionally. Actualization of both career path options should contribute towards the retention of practitioners, and to the long term advancement of child and youth care as a profession.
