Inherent Problems in Substance Abuse Education on University Campuses: Student Perspectives
Substance abuse, the use of drugs and alcohol for the purpose of intoxication for whatever reason, is a common social phenomenon. On university campuses substance abuse has unique characteristics. These characteristics are derived from the influences which the role of the student, the university social structure, and environment have on substance abuse behavior. Although substance abuse may not be regarded as acceptable behavior by university officials, substance abuse is a common part of university life. Many claims have been made for recent declines in apparent drug and alcohol consumption on college campuses. However, the problem of drug and alcohol abuse on campus remains troublesome.
