ABSTRACT

We all stand on the shoulders of the giants, Freud and Jung, and the basic structure of their thought is similar. They share an epistemology in which the unconscious is as unknowable as the physical universe, while, paradoxically, for both, the unconscious is the “true psychical reality.” What is most basic about ourselves remains out of reach. We live through clues, hints, and convictions. But at times Jung felt he “knew” and perhaps Freud did also.
