ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to survey some of social learning programs, discusses a few projects that have focused on the academic behavior improvement of delinquents, and describes some actual techniques of school programming to help delinquents change. Behavioral contracts, or contingency contracts as they are sometimes called, are a formalized series of exchanges. In this case they are exchanges between teachers and students, and they specify exactly what the student is to do and what they will receive in exchange for doing the specified behavior. Parent training and parent education are integral parts of successful school programming, and this may be especially true for parents of delinquents. School vandalism continues to take too large a share of school budgets at a time when these funds are facing general cuts. A team of consultants went to a series of schools and presented training workshops and consultation sepcifically with regard to vandalism.
