ABSTRACT

Given that some of the features associated with apraxia of speech might occur as a result of deficits at a number of levels in speech production, it is no wonder that there has been considerable controversy regarding the features of the disorder and indeed whether it exists independently from aphasia. These seem to be the wrong questions to be asking; instead what is needed is a way of distinguishing the possible levels of deficit that can lead to the different features of the disorder and how they co-occur.
