ABSTRACT
The emergence of children’s ability to deceive others has recently attracted much attention in theory of mind research. A lively debate centres around the issue of whether three- or maybe even two-year-old children are capable of intentional deception or whether this ability only develops around the age of about four years. Why does this seem so important?
