Semantics of Cognitive Contact in Information Theory
As pointed out in Groenendijk, Stokhof, and Veltman (l994a) and Dekker (1995), there are two kinds of information: information about the world and information about discourse. What is more important and we ultimately want to know is the information about the world. One way of getting information about the world is to experience the world. This is a more direct way of getting information about it. Discourse is another way of getting information, which is the main concern in semantics since it is a linguistic means of obtaining information.
