ABSTRACT
This book has described, analyzed, and compared local economic development policy in cities in Canada and the United States, and begun the development and testing of a model of local economic development policy-making. The model focused explicitly on the role and environment of economic development professionals and the impact of decision-making practices on local development policy. Five central issues have been addressed:
economic development policies and practices in cities in Michigan, USA;
economic development policies and practices in cities in Ontario, Canada;
the comparability of policies across the border,
the role of economic development professionals in local economic development decision-making; and
the interaction of economic, political, and professional factors, and their affects on economic development policy.
