ABSTRACT
Seventeen program administrators were interviewed. The ten females and seven males all indicated that they were surprised by the career process that had led them to their present administrative positions, although only one did not view her position as an evolutionary process within a specific professional career path. This may indicate that chance opportunities may play a more significant role in careers than careful career planning.
