ABSTRACT

Many students of child language are interested in examining the role of universais in language acquisition. To test for the impact of universais, researchers need to examine the development of grammatical marking and syntax in corpora from different languages. If such research is to be conducted efficiently, it must be made available to computational analysis. This requires that there be a level of representation that uses a standard set of morphosyntactic codings. This chapter presents a system for constructing such a representation, using the %mor and the %syn tiers.
