ABSTRACT
This chapter offers some suggestions on techniques and equipment for recording, digitizing, and transcribing. Four pieces of advice stand out as most important. First, it is important to structure the recording session in a way that maximizes the naturalness of the interaction. Second, it is crucial to avoid excessive background noise. Third, the production of a high-quality transcript requires the use of high-quality recording and playback equipment. Fourth, it is important to learn to use the editor for transcription and coding. In this chapter, we also recommend specific types of equipment for recording and transcription.
