ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we contribute to the discussion of (in)determinacy of psychological development by exploring some aspects of the historico-cultural character of development, and by highlighting the role of semiosis in the interpretation of human functioning. We do not directly address the determining conditions and forces. Rather, we unfold some of Vygotsky’s ideas concerning sign and drama, as a way of suggesting a shift in emphasis in the current debate on (un)predictable aspects of human actions.
