The Sibling Relationship
Pages 11

Since the 1980s, the sibling relationship has received increasing amounts of research and theoretical attention (Bank & Kahn, 1982; Dunn, 1985; Rosen, 1985). Investigators have begun to explore reactions to serious illness and the death of a sibling to various illnesses (Armstrong-Dailey & Goltzer, 1993; Balk 1983; Bearison & Mulhem, 1994; Bluebond-Langner, 1991b; Fanos & Nickerson, 1991; Fanos & Wiener, 1994; Koch-Hattem 1986; Krell & Rabkin, 1979; Lobato, 1990; Martinson & Campos, 1991; Pollock 1986; Spinetta, 1981). The complex sibling bond as it changes and evolves over the entire life span has only begun to be explored (Boer & Dunn, 1992; Hetherington, Reiss, & Plomin, 1993; Lamb & Sutton-Smith, 1982).
