Identity in Relational Contexts: A Methodological Proposal

The construct of identity is perhaps among the most robust in the dis­ cipline of Developmental Psychology. In this third decade since Jim Mar­ cia’s (1966) introduction of the interview approach to the empirical documentation of the processes of exploration and commitment, methodological refinements continue to emerge that increase our under­ standing of the richness of identity. An additional methodological refine­ ment to the process of assessing identity, focused on isolated versus relational decision making, is proposed.
