ABSTRACT

Forced classification is a procedure of dual scaling, which carries out both discriminant analysis and analysis with the focus on a particular variable or a set of variables. The procedure was developed in 1984 and was generalized in 1986. 1 Its mathematical properties were clarified, and several applications were discussed. 2 In this chapter, we look at forced classification as applied to different types of data. Before discussing its applications, however, we must know the basic idea behind it.
