ABSTRACT

I decided to write this book because I wanted to describe how well production rules accounted for skill acquisition. As discussed in the first chapter, as I progressed down this path I felt compelled to place this account within a coher ent production-rule theory and wanted to make a runnable version of this the ory available to users. This motivation, in conjunction with the existing rational theory of cognition, led to the ACT-R theory.
