ABSTRACT

A complete understanding of the development of children in child care, in any given society, must take an ecological approach, whereby one studies the home and the child-care environments, as well as the specific characteristics of the individual child. The early research on child care tended to evaluate its socialization impact on the child without taking into consideration the significant contribution of the child’s home. Recent work in this field, however, recognized the fact that childrear-ing in child care is not independent of the child’s home but is in fact a collaborative endeavor of the two environments.
