ABSTRACT
Indexing and retrieval are issues of broad scope. The same indexing is sues that arise within the scope o f a case-based explainer, such as SWALE arise within any case-retrieval program. Thus, although the Abby program does not do explanation, the case-retrieval issues it ad dresses are directly relevant to the endeavor o f case-based explanation, such as that done by SWALE. We have included a chapter on Abby here because Domeshek's work addresses important issues in case re trieval, and because Domeshek’s main focus is interestingly different from Owens'.
