ABSTRACT
The previous chapter identified the explanation process as the crucial focus of study and explained why. This chapter, which is also adapted from chapters 4 and 5 of Explanation Patterns (Schank 1982), outlines his model of the explanation process, em phasizing what he sees as the creative nature of that process, and the strong role played by the recollection of old experiences, and their adaptation to new situations.
