ABSTRACT
The term, social stereotype, is commonly taken to refer to attitudes about social groups and, by implication, to individual members of these groups. Stereotypes pervade social life: ethnicity, age, gender, and occupation are common exam ples. Such social groupings are represented by clusters of beliefs and expecta tions about personality, character, and behavior of group members. These are the stereotypes.
