ABSTRACT

The McGuires’ chapter is wonderful. However, like most of the authors’ work, it is about 20 years ahead of its time (perhaps 50 years, if we note that the basic system was invented in the 1950s), difficult to grasp (witness the complicated notation for events and dimensions), and dauntingly comprehensive (insights are provided on topics ranging from the theory of science fiction writing to the evolution of thought). I would like to focus on some of the remarkable implications of the McGuires’ analysis that may be obscured in the original detailed presentation.
