ABSTRACT
What are the marks of quantity? What distinguishes a quantitative from a nonquantitative variable? The marks of quantity are order and additivity: the values of a quantitative variable are ordered and possess additive structure. It is the aim of this chapter to make explicit the meaning of these claims.
