ABSTRACT

This chapter approaches the subject of memory from the point of view that the purpose of memory is behavioral rather than simply for the storage of sensory patterns. Although most would agree on the purpose, it must be acknowledged that, so long as memory models in neural networks continue to resemble little more than correlation matrices, their relationship to cognition will be as a book is related to its reader.
