ABSTRACT

A natural or artificial intelligent system does not passively and stereotypically react to environmental stimuli. Instead such a system participates in a cycle of event-driven action selection and execution. The behavior of the system is driven by a set of time-varying goals that serve as an intentional “context” or “orienta tion” to guide its action-selection process.
