ABSTRACT

Breines and Gordon (1983) give credit to the women's movement of the 1960s and 1970s for helping to bring the traditionally private issue of child sexual abuse into the public sphere. Feminists have been instrumental in helping victims of child sexual abuse through their efforts to change the way people think about sexual abuse, through the formation of organized groups for victims, and through their efforts at education (McIntosh, 1988). Feminists have also engaged in developing theory and advancing scientific research aimed at uncovering the causes and remedies of child sexual abuse as well as other forms of family and sexual violence.
