ABSTRACT

This chapter is a tribute to Graham Goddard in a way that I believe he would think most appropriate. It describes some relatively recent work in my laboratory that has been and continues to be a lot of fun, even though the results to this point have not been as illuminating as I had originally hoped. Still, I continue to maintain an interest in this work, because I feel that more definitive results will be forthcoming, and that the experimen tal design may be a good general technique for determining what events pigeons represent or “code” in working memory. Before describing this design and my research, it will be helpful to review some background literature and the issues being addressed.
