ABSTRACT

Dr. Houston has provided an overview of the history of pilot selection and an excellent illustration of the development, implementation, and initial validation of a pilot selection program at American Airlines. Because I really do not take issue with any of the points made by Dr. Houston, I make a few general observations about personnel selection research and then highlight what I see as some of the strengths and limitations of the American Airlines program. Finally, I present some additional validity data from two other pilot selection programs similar to that of American Airlines.
