ABSTRACT

The form of this debate is the most significant reason that so little has emerged from developmental psycholinguistics that has any proven relevance for treat­ ment of children with language disorders. Children who have problems in the area of language development need specific biological and environmental inter­ ventions relating to the processes involved in language acquisition. But specific interventions do not emerge from the rhetoric of nature vs. nurture. It is Anastasi’s “ how” question that must be answered if application is to be based on research and if basic theoretical issues are to be resolved empirically.
