ABSTRACT
The songs of birds have soothed and entertained human beings throughout the ages. Aside from the historic and aesthetic fascination with bird song there is a more recent and more alluring, scientific attraction. Modem signal analysis techniques confirm that bird vocalizations are some of the most complex biolog ical signals known to man. The mystery of bird song deepens with the realization that birds communicate fairly complex messages with these vocal signals and that, in many species, these communication signals develop through learning.
