ABSTRACT

Celeste is glad that she did not know about her spouse's gender variance until more than thirty years of marriage. Edy is further along on the transgender spectrum than most of the gender-variant people whose wives have told their stories thus far. Edy no longer wears any real mens clothes, and Celeste believes that if it were not for her and her income, Edy would probably live full-time as a woman. If she had known that it would affect her sexual desire for him and our daily conversations, if she had realized that she would never again see him in real mens clothes, if she had foreseen watching him obsess with jewelry, colors, and materials, matching this with that, she probably would have cried for months instead of just hours. Celeste was not sure whether her sexual desire or interest is diminished because of her hormonal level or because she was disinterested in him due to his female side.
