ABSTRACT

Gracie is more concerned about the way she and Jane interface with the world as a couple. A number of the women who shared their stories with us were not interested in maintaining a sex life with a transitioning partner. Another common issue Gracie and Jane faced was how they would present their relationship as two women to new people in their lives. Couples ask themselves if they should be honest about the transition or keep it a secret. Jane had tended to be quite open about being transsexual, but became more discreet in response to Gracie's concerns about society's ignorance and prejudice toward gender-variant people. When the time seemed right, she supported Jane in her desire to transition, even though the process was not always comfortable for her. She has been open to maintaining a marriage, albeit an unusual one, and even an erotic life with her spouse.
