ABSTRACT

Anne seems determined that her spouse will have a fulfilling life. Anne found that Diane's sex reassignment surgery (SRS) had less impact on her life than her coming out as transsexual and beginning to live full-time as a woman. Dick had extremely negative feelings about his cross-dressing, which primarily involved women's undergarments. Partners of gender-variant individuals often find ways to regain some measure of control over their lives within the relationship. Finally, in order to offer Diane support, Anne accompanied her when she went for SRS. Every step of the way, Anne has shown great love for her partner. In addition, for years Anne and Diane have engaged in community education efforts about gender variance and have hosted a potluck-and-talk transgender support group at their home for other couples similar to themselves. With great generosity of spirit they have reached out and helped many people.
