ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the story of Kate and Joe, the feeling about feeling of Joe's transgender. Kate was shocked when, while he was out of town, Joe told her about his cross-dressing during a phone call. She went into an emotional spiral, but decided to seek individual and couples counseling, avoiding an impulsive decision about the fate of her marriage. She set strict limits, refusing to see or participate in Joe's cross-dressing. In retrospect, the only thing that should have tipped off was that one time, while we were still dating; Joe shaved his legs because, he said, he wanted to see what they would feel like next to mine. Joe explained that he thought he would be able to quit when got married. But the feelings never went away. When Kate started to forgive Joe, her healing began in earnest. She has developed a sufficiently positive attitude about the relationship, its future that she and Joe have had another child.
