ABSTRACT

Joan has coped with Dons cross-dressing for a very long time. Her primary concern was that her role in the marriage would be usurped. Her acceptance of this activity as part of their lives was likely fostered by Don having voluntarily disclosed that he is a cross-dresser. Joan does not share Bernadette's concerns about the possible progression of Don's transgender feelings and does not seem to be holding much anger. The latter is also probably related to Don having disclosed rather than Joan having discovered the gender variance, and the length of time that Joan has known about it. Joan hoped never to hear more on the subject, and certainly never expected it to become such a major factor in their lives. She believes that cross-dressing has brought her and Don closer to each other and that they have learned lessons that have helped them in all aspects of their lives.
