ABSTRACT

With the assistance of the parent coordinator, parents may develop a child-friendly and age-appropriate parenting plan. Therefore, it is important that the PC gain a comprehensive understanding of the developmental needs of children and how these needs influence living arrangements. This chapter offers a brief review of the current literature germane to developmental stages, attachment theory, and time sharing. As part of a parenting plan, the PC may assist parents in developing a living arrangement tailored to their family’s unique needs. In most postdivorce cases parents may request assistance in modifying their current time-sharing arrangements. Although the division of time spent with each parent may indicate a custody arrangement, parent coordinators do not make any recommendations regarding custody.
