ABSTRACT

This volume appears at a time in history when we are beginning to comprehend the extent of trauma's impact on children and adolescents on all levels including biological, psychological, and social. We are beginning to move from the mere recognition that juvenile delinquents have often faced extreme adversity in their childhood, to the understanding that such adversity has had specific effects which contribute to the delinquency lifestyle. In this volume and elsewhere, we are integrating the knowledge and theory of the burgeoning field of traumatic stress studies with the research on juvenile delinquency.
