Older Workers' Issues and Social Work Practice
Gerontological social work practice has expanded greatly in the past two decades; however, older workers' issues have not been a primary focus of gerontological social practice effort, social work literature, or social work associations. The issues and conditions of older workers are of critical importance to social workers concemed with the quality of life of the older population. Not only do work and work-related issues affect the quality of life of employed older Americans, they also determine late life financial status for many. In addition, many older workers are caregivers to frail and/or disabled elders. Their ability to provide quality care for their elders is often strongly affected by work situations.
