As I looked around the room where the adolescent survivors met for their weekly group, it was obvious that addiction could take many forms. Some of the survivors had been using drugs or alcohol for years of their young lives. Other survivors had eating disorders. Some of the group members were either sexually addicted and talked frequently of prostituting, while other group members suffered from sexual anorexia. Almost all of the group's survivors engaged in risky behaviors that at some point were self-abusive. Survivors of childhood sexual abuse will use any number of substances or behaviors to help them deal with the pain of their abuse.
