ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author focuses on women, she cannot stress enough that examining what we teach girls is important. Teaching young women to be active and positive agents of change is important. Silence is the best ornament of a woman. Only a shameful wife takes her husband to court. A woman’s place is at her husband’s feet. Indian proverbs obviously do not fit women anymore, yet proverbs are a traditional way to propagate beliefs. Many women have been expected to be sacrificial and silent. The growing inability of women to be silent in the face of injustice is important. Many women have been brought up not to question the men in their family system. Women and girls need to develop better skills in questioning family norms and culture.
