Sexoffenderscostsocietyagreatdealofmoney.Theeconomicburdenofthispopulationhasbeenquotedatthestaggeringamountof $2,055,528,000in1990aloneintheUnitedStates.Unfortunately,the vastmajorityofthismoneyispresentlydirectedtowardtheincarcerationofoffenders,anapproachresemblingtheoldfarmanalogyofclosingthebarngateafterthehorsehasescaped.Significantfundingfor thepreventionofsexualabuseandtreatmentofoffendersremainsa lowpriorityinmanystates(Bradford,1998;Pithersetal.,1995).
