God Transference, the Good Object, and the Makeup of Ministers

The relationship that we would like to have the most control over is our relationship with our primary caretakers, most often our father and our mother. This is because these persons are primarily responsible for the nurturance, the emotional and physical support, that enables us to grow into competent adults. Having good parents, or having a good relationship with one’s parents, has survival value. Instinctively we know that without parents or primary caretakers we would perish. And in some cases, of course, should we incur their disfavor, we might perish because of them.
