ABSTRACT
This chapter deals mostly with paper documents that become archives: that is, non-current records selected for permanent preservation. The chapter concentrates on the environment and equipment needed to promote the physical survival of such records. The techniques of repair of damaged documents are not discussed, as this should be left to competent and qualified archive conservators.
