ABSTRACT
Had the museum curator been alive to commerce earlier, design and designers would have been brought into museums at least a quarter of a century before they were. It was, after all, in the world of commerce that the exhibition started. In the market place, the need to sell goods gave rise to the need to display them to advantage. In the museum the need to display objects to advantage is, in very simple terms, the essence of museum exhibition design.
